The Roundabout Theater Company is planning a revival of one of Arthur Miller’s lesser-known plays, The Price, for the winter of 2017. The play is about a man reflecting on his life as he sells furniture from the home where he grew up. This will be the fifth Broadway production of The Price. The play made its debut in 1968 and was revived for performances in 1979, 1992, and 1999.

A Story of Sacrifices Made for Family

Victor Franz’s family lost their fortune in the Great Depression, and he was forced to give up his dream of pursuing his education to support his father. Victor returns to his childhood home 30 years later to sell what is left of his family’s estate. His wife, his estranged brother, and the antiques dealer who is called in to appraise the furniture have competing agendas. Victor is forced to reevaluate the sacrifices he made for his family. The drama takes place in Manhattan.

Stars of The Price

The play will star John Turturro as Victor Franz, Jessica Hecht as Esther Franz, Tony Shalhoub as Walter Franz, and Danny DeVito as Gregory Solomon, the antiques dealer. It will be directed by Terry Kinney.

The humorous part of the aging Gregory Solomon will be DeVito’s first Broadway role. He has performed off-Broadway, including in Shakespeare in the Park. In 2012, he starred in a stage production of The Sunshine Boys in London. He played the same role in Los Angeles in 2013.
