Joshua Harmon’s Significant Other was performed off-Broadway at the Roundabout Theater Company’s Laura Pels Theatre in 2015. It will begin performances on Broadway in February 2017 at the Booth Theatre.

Struggle to Find Love

The play tells the story of Jordan Berman, a man in his 20s who is struggling to find Mr. Right. Jordan has a crush on a coworker who does not feel the same way about him. He feels unlucky in love and spends time with three close female friends, who are getting married one by one, but not necessarily to partners that the others like. Jordan tries to be supportive of his friends as he feels increasingly lonely and struggles to find love of his own.

His friend Kiki gets married in Kentucky, and another friend, Vanessa, meets a man at Kiki’s wedding and begins dating him. Jordan and his third friend, Laura, agree to marry each other if they cannot find partners.

Romantic Comedy Earned Positive Reviews

Despite the sad subject matter, the play is a comedy that makes audiences laugh out loud throughout the performance. The play contains jokes about bridesmaids’ dresses and career-oriented women who turn into Bridezillas. The romantic comedy earned positive reviews from critics for its off-Broadway production.

The Broadway production of Significant Other will star Gideon Glick as Jordan, Lindsay Mendez as Laura, Barbara Barrie as Helene, Rebecca Naomi Jones as Vanessa, and Sas Goldberg as Kiki.
