Amelie

The Broadway musical, Amélie, is sure to keep you begging for more. Based on the 2001 romantic comedy film, the musical first premiered at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in September 2015, and since then has made it to the big stage of Broadway.

The musical itself starts with the characters explaining how each of them is connected. Then, they all come together to announce the birth of Amélie Poulain. The show covers Amélie’s life, from her quiet life at home with her parents to later, when she leaves home and encounters Nino, a man she glimpses at a train station.

The next part of the musical covers Amélie as she gets a job as a waitress in a café. After she discovers a box of long-lost childhood treasures belonging to the former occupant of her apartment, she decides to return them. Seeing the effect on the person, she embarks on a mission to complete good deeds for others. During the course of her mission, she encounters Nino time and time again. Over time, Nino begins looking for her, as well. A musical filled with comedy, love, and great songs, this is a show that you won’t want to miss.

The current rendition of Amélie stars Phillipa Soo, who is best known for originating the role of Eliza Hamilton in Hamilton. She was nominated for a Tony Award for that performance, and now goes on to play the role of Amélie in this latest musical. She co-stars opposite Adam Chanler-Berat. The Broadway show previews March 9 ahead of an April 3 opening in 2017, after a production in Los Angeles that runs through January 15, 2016.
