The Encounter on Broadway Tickets

The play was inspired by the novel “Amazon Beaming” by Petru Popescu. It loosely follows the story of a National Geographic photographer and his experience with a mystical Brazilian tribe in 1969. The play is directed and performed by British director Simon McBurney. As he tells the story, the audience also explores the nature of reality and the meaning of storytelling.

McBurney was fascinated by the way the brain processes and stores memories and the ways they affect people’s lives. He found a way to tell a dramatic and theatrical story that causes audiences to question their imaginations. McBurney said the show is partially about solitude and having an intimate experience using technology. He created The Encounter for Complicite, a company that he co-founded.

The Encounter has been performed for sold-out crowds in London and at several arts festivals. It was first performed at the Edinburgh International Festival last summer and then moved to London’s Barbican Theatre in early 2016. It has also been performed at festivals in several countries across Europe, including Britain, France, Greece, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.
