Cast and Creative Team for The Present

Blanchett and Roxburgh starred in the world premiere of The Present last year in Australia. Although Blanchett has appeared in other plays in New York and London, she will be making her Broadway debut in The Present. She has won two Oscars and has been nominated several times.

The cast will also include Anna Bamford, Andrew Buchanan, David Downer, Eamon Farren, Martin Jacobs, Brandon McClelland, Jacqueline McKenzie, Marshall Napier, Susan Prior, Chris Ryan, and Toby Schmitz.

The sets and costumes will be designed by Alice Babidge, and the lighting will be designed by Nick Schlieper. Stefan Gregory will provide original music and sound design.

Adaptation of Chekhov’s Lost Play

Blanchett’s husband, Andrew Upton, wrote an adaptation based on Chekhov’s play Platonov. The play, his first, was discovered in 1920, 16 years after the author’s death. The play was updated and is set in a country house in the 1990s. It tells the story of Anna Petrovna, a widow who is celebrating her birthday with a group of guests, including Platonov and his wife. Unresolved relationships and regret become apparent at the party.
